P E R S O N A L I T Y
Kinya is certainly the type of person who is determined never to be forgotten. He thrives on being in the spotlight, the centre of attention, for whatever reason it may be even if it means creating that reason himself. On the surface, Kinya is a very ambitious but self-absorbed person with a lot to say. People will often read his behaviour as being out of arrogance, even though he doesn't really look down on anyone else at all. Actually, if the world were more like him, surely life would be better for everyone, yes? It's almost pure how much he believes in himself and his own abilities and how he feels this goodness must be known and shared around the world. Truly Kinya lives in a special bubble of his very own. That being said, he did grow up in a wealthy household with servants tending to his every whims and telling him how perfect he is. Quite frankly, Kinya doesn't really see many flaws in himself even though flaws, there are many.

For example, Kinya is so unfit he can barely run for five minutes, nor walk on foot for an hour without wanting to collapse. He is often seen riding on his Rapidash because his level of fitness is that pathetic. Don't get him to lift heavy objects, nor climb up difficult walls or anything, because he might possibly die. If that's what you're after though, do talk him into it. Kinya isn't really the type of guy who can really rough it very easily either as he can't stand getting dirty if it isn't necessary, he doesn't like sleeping on the ground so yes, his Rapidash is actually supporting a good deal of his travel baggage. He must have a nice tent and an air mattress to get through the outdoor nights, of course. Another flaw of Kinya's is that he is very superficial and vain and puts too much effort into his appearance. While it's indeed a strong dedication, he do have a regular facial cleansing routine, using hair products and making sure his outer self is as flawless as possible. If there is a severe imperfection, you may not see him for days until it's fixed again. In that sense, Kinya is a perfectionist for the things that only he really cares about.

Despite his behaviour, Kinya does have the makings of a gentleman. He's naturally chivalrous and thoughtful of others, and he cherishes his Pokemon so much. His Pokemon really do adore him and vice versa, and they're an overall great team. Kinya has an eye for beauty in others that the other may not see in themselves, and can occasionally provide some amazing insight. The truth is, he really doesn't see an ugly side in others easily and he genuinely wants to surround himself with positivity and he believes the key to that is to start within oneself. So while Kinya can easily come across chatty, obnoxious, self-centred and vain, the intent behind it all was never cruel to begin with. He just has a roundabout way of showing his true colours. Due to his wealthy background, he does have a strong idea of etiquette as well as a great education. Kinya does know more than he lets on, but nowadays he just wants to perform around the world and spread joy that way.

H I S T O R Y
Kinya's parents were certainly well-established by the time he was brought into the world. His mother was a top co-ordinator as well as an activist against cruel treatment of Pokemon. Meanwhile his father owns the corporation behind the Magnet Train running between Goldenrod and Saffron City. While they had settled in Blackthorn, his father was always commuting to Goldenrod, as well as Saffron. Kinya's childhood was warm and happy, as he mostly spent time with his mother. But when he was five, his mother died of a serious illness which led to his father sinking into a deep depression. Kinya was left to servants and tutors to look after him and his upbringing while his father moved to Goldenrod to fully focus on his work. As a result, Kinya's loving relationship with his parents had been severed at an early age and he was left to find joy in other things. Though the people he was surrounded with always praised him and taught him a lot, the only one who didn't make him feel lonely was his Ponyta. He trained it up, inspired by how his mother won the Johto Grand Festival with her Rapidash. Kinya decided that to regain his father's affections, he had to become an amazing co-ordinator that would bring joy to the world again, just like his mother did. Interestingly enough, when Kinya set off on his journey, nearly every Pokemon he caught was either orphaned or abandoned/mistreated by previous trainers. It seems he wishes to continue his mother's legacy in that respect, and it's why he always showers his Pokemon with love and care.

AND HERE'S ANOTHER BOI i rly wanted to make a male who displays a lot of stereotypically feminine traits while maintaining that gentleman attitude. I wanted him simultaneously obnoxious yet with a big heart, who is both self-absorbed yet charitable. I think he's a deliberate walking contradiction but I like it. He'll probably be my only Pokemon trainer OC with a Pokemon who can mega evolve.

btw if anyone wants him to have interactions and headcanons with their OC, feel free to talk to me about it. I know I have a ship for my OC Amelie (thanks Sam lol) but idk yet for Kinya. He has a big open heart for having friends and family, but he prioritises himself and his Pokemon over romantic ties, and he has high suspicions about the intentions of others due to being extremely wealthy.
